The Hung family and Snow Garden Restaurant staff, continually thank all the wonderful customers for your patronage.

After many delightful years of serving Vancouver, John, Karen, Stanford, Hung Family and the Snow Garden Restaurant Staff thank you all for all the patronage that you all have given us. We as a family have decided to move on in life from this location...

1970 - 2011

Brief History

First Restaurant opened on Commercial Drive between Broadway and 10th on the West Side of Commercial Drive. (Run by the Hung Family and later on run by the first son.)

Second Restaurant opened on Broadway between Kingsway and Main Street on the South side of Broadway. (Run by the second son.)

Third Restaurant opened on Main Street and 51st on the East Side of Main Street. (Run by the father)

Later on the Second Restaurant was sold and moved Downtown. Which opened on 1984 on Pender between Richards Street and Seymour Street on the North side of Pender. (Run by the second son.)

The First Restaurant was later sold and the first son moved to the Main Street location with the father.

In 1994, the downtown location was closed down due to the fact that the whole lot was being knocked down.

In 1996, Snow Garden Restaurant re-opened in downtown on Richards Street between Pender and West Hastings. (Run by the second son, his wife and eldest son.)

Around the year 2000, the Main Street Snow Garden Restaurant was sold.

In 2011, the last Snow Garden Restaurant remaining in Vancouver was sold and has closed their doors on December 31st, 2011. (Only the business aspect was sold, not the Snow Garden Restaurant name)

  1. My family is so sad that your restaurant is gone, you were the best! How will I survive without crispy rice??? We'll miss the food, and the nice family that owned the restaurant.

  3. Thanks for sharing the history of Snow Garden! I used to always go to the 51st and Main location as a kid and until it was closed. I really enjoyed the hot & sour soup.

  6. Would your family consider publishing a book with your famous recipes, such as steamed pork bun (I miss it so much!), diced chicken with chilli sour and garlic sauce, crispy rice, spicy spareribs... to name just a few. I am in my 50s now and can remember going to the Snow Gardens on Main and 51st and the one on Commercial when I was in elementary school! Our family drove out from White Rock to share delicious family meals. We so miss your family!
